9th Annual Dallas Blues Festival – March 30

    29 Mar

This Saturday, all the best blues comes to Dallas. Dallas is no stranger to the blues so this festival will be home for the artists and fans alike. This dynamic lineup includes Bobby Womack, Bobby Rush, Mel Waiters, Floyd Taylor, Shirley Brown and Theodis Ealy. The blues is alright and so is this festival! Floyd Taylor’s review of his late father’s music (Johnnie Taylor) is the best on the market. Johnnie’s tunes span decades of music that put listeners in a ‘soul heaven’. The Dallas singer marked the industry with hit after hit, his son does a phenomenal job covering his music and others! Bobby Womack is a legend among legends! His name is synonymous with blues and soul music. The ‘Bravest Man in the World’ is still going strong after intimating his recent, surprising health struggles but is still going strong and promises to deliver the award winning shows he’s known for!

    Shirley Brown

    Shirley Brown

The “Woman to Woman” legend Shirley Brown is bringing her soulful style to the Dallas Blues Festival.

Her legendary style and still smooth voice make her the perfect addition as the sole female headliner for the festival. Malaco Blues/R&B legend Mel Waiters is sure to have his whiskey, don’t forget to have yours! Don’t worry, Bobby Rush won’t be ‘studdin’ ya but is sure to have a song for all the “Hen Pecked” fellas, ‘Chicken Heads’ and “Young Tenderoni” in the house Saturday night! Of all the acts, Theodis Ealy is sure to get you on your feet…well, at least ‘stand up’ when he breaks out in his hit! Blues lovers and music lovers alike are sure to enjoy this festival. These artists bring amazing energy and years and years of road experience to this show as it convenes on the Dallas Convention Center this week.

2013 St. Patrick’s Day Dallas Festival and Events

    14 Mar

If the Who’s of Whoville bring out all their gifts at Christmastime what do the Green colored people of North Texas do on Greenville Ave when St. Patty’s Day Weekend arrives? They dash for 3.5 miles covered in four leaf clovers and then party their way through the rest of the day in hopes of good luck for the rest of spring. You MAY find some of these greedy green southerners with “the luck of the Irish” jammed in their back pocket or floating around their cups up on a Greenville restaurant rooftop at 8pm Saturday, but nonetheless they’ll be out and so will the sun. There’s a lovely forecast ahead to welcome all of St. Patrick’s pumped up patrons no matter how they plan on celebrating this “pot of gold” known as Dallas. We’ve got a few ideas of where they’ll be or where you will be between Saturday, March 16th and Sunday, March 17th.

Dash Down Greenville 5K (March 16)

Get your St. Patty’s Day started at 8 o’clock AM in the Dash Down Greenville 5K. This race will benefit the North Texas Food Bank so get your green gear on and walk or run down Greenville Ave shortly before the MAJOR (and we do mean major) parade. You might even help raise more than $61,500 (which was the amount from last year). Live band, cash prizes, food and more. dashdown2013The course will start on Southwestern Blvd, over to Skillman, crossing Lovers Lane and turning down E University Blvd just to land you right back on Greenville Ave.

    Race Day Registration: $45
    Kids 12 and Under: $15

Dallas St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival (March 16)

What would St. Patrick’s Day in Dallas be without the massive Greenville parade and festival that blocks off half of Uptown every year? And guess who’s headlining this year? None other than Snoop D-O Double-G himself. It won’t be a “Friday” affair for the rap star who will be getting a taste of how Green we really go in Texas. I’m not talking about the green that gives Snoop the munchies, but that of Irish pride and clovers. Get there early, get a spot up high or don’t get there at all. Following right after Dash Down Greenville the parade features tons of decked out floats and greenies on floats – young and old, Irish and non, drunken and…..well, less inebriated.

St. Patrick’s Day Greenville Avenue Block Party (March 16)

Green wigs aren’t the only thing that’ll be frazzled this Saturday. Shift the party down the street and to the corner of Greenville Ave and Goodwin Lane. Live music all around and food abounds. Prepare for a few pinching in your green jeans and Boston Celtics tee.

St. Paddy’s Day Party at Sundown at Granada (March 16)

The Granada Theater transforms into “Emerald City”. Reggae on the roof. DJ in the parking lot. Need we say more?

“Shots” and “Bombs” will be fired (or poured) for under $5 as Hacienda goes Guiness Green. Patty’s Day pints for just $3.

2013 Hot Chocolate Run 5K/15K Dallas Fair Park

    3 Feb

Don’t end up like Augustus. Get off your marshmallow, throw on some sneakers and head to Dallas Fair Park for a “world of pure imagination”. This Saturday, February 9th, the Dallas Hot Chocolate Run will unite lovers of chocolate from across the metroplex for a 15K and 5K run benefiting the Ronald McDonald House program. “America’s Sweetest Race” is sweeping the nation and that includes North Texas. While doing your Chocolate Run you may even spot an Oompa Loompa on the course.

hotcocoaThe 5K is scheduled to start at 7:30am and the 15K will commence at 8:10am. All runners/upbeat walkers are required to stay at a 15 minute mile pace or faster (like 4 miles per hour) for the Hot Chocolate Race, so choose to walk briskly or stay on the sidelines with your cup of hot cocoa.

The Hot Chocolate Expo will be located inside the Automobile Building and registered runners can pick up their race packets Thursday 2/7 (11a-8p) and Friday 2/8 (11a-8p). Not telling what’s inside the Chocolatey Expo, besides goodie bags and race packets but it’s sure to be a treat! and probably plenty more that our greedy Augustus would love to get his chubby hands on. This is the only location where race packets will be distributed. Parking here is $10.

Included in your goodie bags are some fancy-looking hoodies that you’ll want to keep forever. If the “chocolate” part of this Dallas event wasn’t enough to get you signed on, the sweater is definitely an added benefit. Get registered here!
