26 Aug

Ever wonder why Oktoberfest is always in September?! I don’t know about you, but I just always noticed that! It turns out that they schedule the Addison Oktoberfest at this time to coincide with the opening of the world-renown Oktoberfest celebration IN Munich. It is a 16-day festival which ends on the first weekend in October. More than 5 million people attend the famous event held in Germany each year as it is an important part of Bavarian culture. (You get the opportunity to enter to win a free trip for 2 to the 2012 Munich Oktoberfest!) Free Fact: The original Oktoberfest occurred in Munich on Oct. 12, 1810.

This Festival is one of the most authentic Oktoberfest celebrations outside of Munich! For years Addison has been recognized for both it’s great 4th of July Fireworks display and their annual Oktoberfest which attracts more than 60,000 fans. According to USA Today Addison Oktoberfest is listed as one of the Top 10 Oktoberfests in North America!

One tip of advice: If you’d like to go early one day and come back in the evening with more frieds, just make sure to have your hand stamped before you leave and you can return free of charge that same day. Whether you go Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, Oktoberfest at Addison Circle is something you should experience at least ONCE in your life! Learn more about the German culture and have a great time with the entire family. The food is delicious by the way! I can’t begin to describe all of it. It’s just something you have to experience but expect a LOT of starch and meat!

It's not a festival without Funnel Cake

Addison Summer Series: July Jazz

13 Jul

The Addison Summer Concert series is back this year with more free music and the perfect ambiance. Nestled in Addison Circle not far from all the congestion and busyness of Belt Line Road, Addison’s Summer Series manages to draw hundreds each year. With three months of themed music played by local groups, North Dallas residents have somewhere to run away on Saturday evenings. This month there will be Jazz music played each weekend. The first Saturday started off with Tres Leches and continues July 16th with Melani L. Skybell. Sun sets about 8:30/8:40ish so the temperature will cool down a LITTLE bit, but the trees and shade of the residential and business buildings provide some relief from the sun. Attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, picnic baskets, snacks, drinks, etc. I’ve seen people come out with a full blown low-rise picnic table and extended lawn chairs! The local eateries also sell pizza and other treats while the Margarita station covers your adult drinks.

Once the music has stopped, no one’s forcing you to go anywhere! Enjoy the ambiance, stroll around the rest of Addison Circle or drive down Belt Line Road to see what other fun stuff you can find! This event is going on every Saturday in July. Catch some of the areas top jazz musicians at Addison’s July Jazz!
