27th Annual Elite News Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade and Festival

mlk-smileThis Monday when we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, you can join Elite News for their annual MLK Day Parade and Festival in Dallas! The 27th Annual Elite News Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade and Festival ranks as one of the Top 5 celebrations commemorating Dr. King in the country with over 250,000 attendees each year. The 2013 MLK Day Dallas Parade will begin promptly at 10:00am, at the corner of M.L.K. Blvd. & Lamar St. For those participating, line up is at 7:30 am. The parade will proceed down M.L.K. Blvd. to Fair Park. The M.L.K. festival doors will be open at 10am at the Tower Building in Fair Park until 6pm that evening. This Dallas tradition is free and open to the public so join in the celebration as we recognize the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. on his birthday.

Dallas MLK Day Parade 2013

The 31st Annual MLK Birthday Celebration will kick off on January 18th with a Candle Lighting Ceremony at the MLK Jr. Recreation Center Gym. Every year the City of Dallas has a host of events celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. around his birthday. The Martin Luther King Jr Dallas Parade is starting at Dallas City Hall on Saturday, January 19th at 10:00am. From City Hall participants will march down Ervay Street, make a left on MLK Blvd and end up at Fair Park. If you and your group or organization would like to be a part of the 2013 Dallas MLK Parade click here so you can march as well! Applicants must return their form to 2922 MLK Blvd, Suite 147, Dallas 75215 or faxed to 214-670-8501, and line up for the march is at 8am Saturday morning.

Big D NYE 2013

Not only is Big D NYE the largest New Year’s Eve celebration in Dallas but it’s FREE also! Everyone is welcome to Victory Park for an evening of live music, fireworks spectacular, DFW food trucks, a band competition and a grand countdown all to ring in 2013! Starting at 7:00pm on December 31st and ending at 1:00am on January 1st Big D NYE 2013 will take over Victory Park for another citywide extravaganza as we transition from 2012 into the year of 2013.

This year the Stream Energy Fireworks Spectacular will pop off from four different buildings to the soundtrack of music developed by DJ Ro Parrish. It’s one of the highlights of Big D NYE 2013 and new year’s period.

The band known as Breaking Southwest, originally from The Colony, who won the Texas Motor Speedway Fast Track to Fame Big D NYE Competition will be performing live from the Chevy Music stage. Click here to learn more about Breaking Southwest and their Fast Track to Fame!

Women of Faith Christmas Event – November 30

If you missed the Women of Faith Conference in September at the AAC, now is your chance to go to their first ever Women of Faith Christmas Event being held at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano. The program is scheduled for Friday night, 7:00pm to 9:30pm at WOF veteran, Sheila Walsh’s own home church. The family friendly event will feature pastor/author Francis Chan, Bible teachers Lisa Harper and Sheila Walsh, and award-winning musical artists like Kari Job and Point of Grace.

We got a chance to sit down with Sheila Walsh at the “Celebrate What Matters” conference. Here she shares a little about the WOF Christmas and how excited Women of Faith are for the inaugural event!

In addition to traditional holiday music enjoy interactive story-telling of the story of Immanuel – God With Us – and a full evening of hope and joy.

Finally the BIG MYSTERY will be revealed as to what all those construction workers are doing in the space above the Woodall Rogers tunnel! As you may or may not have noticed that entire area between Pearl St. and St. Paul has been filled in and closed off, now connecting the Dallas Arts District to Uptown. It is the future site of Klyde Warren Park! The Grand Opening weekend for Klyde Warren Park is October 27 & 28. The hours for this 2-day soiree are: Saturday: 10am-4pm and Sunday 10am-10pm!

We’ve got a breakdown of all that activities that will be taking place in celebration of the final revealing of this once chaotic construction zone. Choose either or both days to be a part of the Klyde Warren Park Grand Opening Celebration!

Public parking for the Grand Opening celebration will be available for a fee in garages and surface lots located in and around the Arts District starting at $5.

As of October 29th, Klyde Warren Park will be

District After Dark – October 19

This Friday when the sun sets and the cool night air sweeps over the city, a plethora of light installations, public art and illuminating performances will brighten up the Dallas Arts District. This night of Free public art features 10 different artists and a glimpse into Aurora 2013, coming October next year!

District After Dark will commence at 6:00pm on Friday evening, October 19th. This is just one of the great attractions of the District’s Art in October series. Roam Dallas museums and venues like the Wyly Theatre, Nasher Sculpture Center, Crow Collection and DMA until the wee hours of the night. Here’s everything you can look forward to at this After Dark festival:

Head down to the Dallas Arts District Friday night (6pm til about midnight) for the FREE District After Dark event. Come dressed up in a glow-in-the-dark costume to the Crow Collection of Asian Art between 7:30 and 9:30pm and have your photo taken and uploaded to the Dallas Arts District Pinterest page for their Pinterest Costume Contest. The costume contest will continue at the Kylde Warren Park Grand Opening celebration also on October 28th, so you have two opportunities for getting your Pinterest costume pic taken! Winners of the costume competition receive tickets or gift certificates to Arts District venues, restaurants and performances as well as free museum passes.
